The rapid advancement of 6G technology is driven by groundbreaking innovations across various fields. Projects like 6G-TERAKOM focus on developing high-speed wireless solutions using terahertz-range radio systems with intelligent antennas, emphasizing modular and scalable approaches for flexibility. Meanwhile, 6G-CampuSens is dedicated to creating secure campus networks with integrated sensing and communications, leveraging open RAN architecture to enhance security and performance. These technological innovations are critical to overcoming current limitations and ensuring that 6G networks are capable of meeting future demands. As we explore these technological marvels, we transition to a broader perspective on global collaborations and visions for 6G.
Driven by ever-growing data demands, the 6G-TERAKOM project tackles the challenge of high-speed wireless solutions. This project focuses on developing a terahertz-range radio system with integrated, intelligent antennas. These antennas boast precise beam alignment for various mobile scenarios, while the project itself emphasizes a modular and scalable approach for flexibility. By leveraging Creonic's expertise, 6G-TERAKOM aims to create an energy-efficient, chip-based system that strengthens Europe's technological leadership in 6G. The project partners are Ericsson Antenna Technology Germany GmbH, Rosenheim, Creonic GmbH, Kaiserslautern, Infineon Technologies AG, Neubiberg, National Instruments Dresden GmbH, Dresden, Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG, Munich, CONTAG AG, Berlin, IC4X GmbH, Berlin, Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Fraunhofer IZM, Berlin, Fraunhofer IAF, Freiburg, Technical University Berlin, Technical University Dresden and University of Ulm. The 6G-TERAKOM has raised €12.68 million (74% of which is funded by the BMBF).
The project aims to research, design, and test 6G technologies for secure campus networks resembling critical infrastructure. It will develop a reference architecture for secure 6G campus networks with Integrated Sensing & Communications (ISAC), contributing to the evolution of "Campusnetz 2.0" and bolstering Germany's technological sovereignty. Open RAN plays a key role in building the reference architecture, with a focus on security analysis conducted by FAU ESCS in collaboration with various partners. Additionally, FAU ESCS contributes RF and interference analysis to enhance campus network protection, working closely with partner institutions. The project is supported by funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In conclusion, the future of 6G technology is being shaped by significant technological innovations, as demonstrated by projects like 6G-TERAKOM and 6G-CampuSens. 6G-TERAKOM is pushing the boundaries of high-speed wireless solutions through the development of terahertz-range radio systems with intelligent antennas, emphasizing modularity and scalability. Meanwhile, 6G-CampuSens focuses on creating secure campus networks by integrating sensing and communications within an open RAN architecture. These advancements are essential for overcoming current limitations and ensuring that 6G networks can meet future demands. As we continue to explore these technological breakthroughs, we are also broadening our perspective on global collaborations and visions for the 6G era.
