Client was a growth-oriented nutraceutical company with established presence in the dietary supplement and functional food markets. With annual revenue of $45 million and a portfolio of 28 products, the company has built its reputation on science-backed formulations using traditional ingredients. Client Challenge Client was looking to develop a new product line centered around berry-based phytonutrients. The client sought to capitalize on emerging research highlighting the significant health benefits of these plant compounds, particularly polyphenols and flavonoids. Despite their success, Client faced several significant challenges:
To ensure our findings were both scientifically robust and commercially actionable, we adopted a multi-pronged research framework combining scientific rigor, industry insight, and market intelligence. This approach blended peer-reviewed evidence with real-world supplier data, consumer insights, and competitive benchmarking. Each stage of the process was designed to validate claims, assess feasibility, and align recommendations with both health efficacy and market potential.
Our comprehensive literature review and supplier data analysis revealed significant variations in phytonutrient content across berry varieties, with dark berries demonstrating exceptional bioactive profiles. Aronia berries led with the highest total polyphenol content (2080 mg/100g), followed by Blackcurrants (560 mg/100g) and Blueberries (525 mg/100g). This represents a 3-10x higher concentration compared to commonly consumed berries like strawberries (225 mg/100g) and raspberries (126 mg/100g).
